Botox®/Dysport®
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand name for a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used for both medical and cosmetic purposes.
How does Botox work for wrinkle reduction?
Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for creating certain types of wrinkles. When these muscles are relaxed, it results in smoother, less wrinkled skin.
Is Botox safe?
When administered by a qualified healthcare professional, Botox is generally considered safe. However, there can be side effects, so it’s essential to have it done by a licensed and experienced provider.
What areas of the face can Botox treat?
Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines (between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet (around the eyes). It can also be used for other facial areas and non-wrinkle-related purposes.
How long does Botox last?
The effects of Botox typically last around 3 to 6 months. After this time, muscle activity gradually returns, and wrinkles may reappear.
Is Botox painful?
Most people find Botox injections to be relatively painless. A very fine needle is used, and some providers may apply a topical numbing cream before the procedure to minimize any discomfort.
Are there any side effects of Botox?
Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. In rare cases, there can be more serious side effects, so it’s crucial to discuss potential risks with your provider.
Can Botox be used for other medical conditions?
Yes, Botox has several medical applications, including treating chronic migraines, muscle spasms, overactive bladder, and more.
How long does it take to see results after a Botox treatment?
The results of a Botox treatment are not immediate. It may take a few days to a week for the full effects to become noticeable.
Can Botox be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
Botox can be used in combination with other cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers, chemical peels, and laser therapies for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Is there an age limit for getting Botox?
It can be used by adults of varying ages, depending on individual needs and concerns. Our youngest Botox patient is 23 and oldest Botox patient is 74. We recommend starting Botox when you see fine lines occur as Botox can be preventative for permanent wrinkles.
It’s important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to discuss your specific concerns and determine if Botox is a suitable treatment for you. They can provide personalized guidance and answer any additional questions you may have.
Fillers (Restylane® Revanesse®)
What are dermal fillers made of?
Dermal fillers, particularly those containing hyaluronic acid, are composed of a gel-like substance that mimics the body’s naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. This substance is injected to add volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours.
How do hyaluronic acid fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid fillers work by attracting and retaining water, adding volume to the injected area. They also stimulate collagen production, contributing to skin firmness and elasticity.
What areas can be treated with hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are commonly used to plump lips, soften facial creases and wrinkles, enhance shallow contours, and improve the appearance of scars. They can be used in various areas of the face.
Are hyaluronic acid fillers permanent?
No, hyaluronic acid fillers are not permanent. They are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body over time. The duration of their effects varies based on the type of filler used and individual metabolism. Typically, they last from several months to over a year.
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects might include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These usually resolve within a few days. In rare cases, more severe side effects like allergic reactions or vascular complications can occur.
Who is a good candidate for hyaluronic acid fillers?
Good candidates are generally individuals in good health who wish to address specific concerns, such as volume loss, lines, or asymmetry in the facial structure. However, the suitability of the treatment should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure usually takes around 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas being treated and the extent of the treatment.
Is there downtime after the procedure?
Typically, there’s minimal to no downtime after the procedure. However, some people might experience mild swelling or bruising, which can be covered with makeup.
Can fillers be dissolved if needed?
Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This can be useful in case of asymmetry or if a patient is dissatisfied with the results.
Fat-dissolvers (Belkyra®)
What is Belkyra?
Belkyra, also known as Kybella in some regions, is an injectable treatment containing deoxycholic acid, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance in the body. It is used to reduce moderate to severe fat beneath the chin (submental fat), commonly known as a “double chin.”
How does Belkyra work?
Deoxycholic acid disrupts fat cells when injected into the area under the chin. It breaks down the fat cells, leading to a reduction in the fullness of the area over time.
Who is a good candidate for Belkyra?
Individuals with moderate to severe submental fullness or a double chin who wish to improve the appearance of their chin profile without surgery could be good candidates for Belkyra. However, candidacy is best determined through consultation with a healthcare professional.
How is Belkyra administered?
The treatment involves a series of injections into the targeted area under the chin. The number of injections and sessions required varies based on the amount of fat and desired results.
What are the side effects of Belkyra?
Common side effects can include swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, and discomfort at the injection site. These effects are typically temporary and resolve within a few days to a few weeks.
Is the reduction permanent?
The reduction of fat is considered permanent, as the destroyed fat cells are unable to store fat. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential to prevent the accumulation of new fat in the treated area.
How long does it take to see results?
Results from Belkyra injections become noticeable gradually over several weeks to months, as the body naturally processes and eliminates the treated fat cells.
Is there any downtime after Belkyra treatment?
Downtime is generally limited to first week (possibly second), but individuals might experience swelling, bruising, tenderness, or numbness in the treated area for a week. It’s advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity immediately after the treatment.
Are multiple sessions required?
Multiple treatment sessions are often recommended to achieve optimal results. The exact number of sessions required varies based on individual response and the amount of submental fat.
